Located at the entrance of Batroun's main souk is a place which specializes in desserts called "Tout de Sweet". It's about all things sweet. Specialities are prepared by a woman with the help of her husband and two daughters. While spending the weekend in Batroun, I passed by for a sweet treat.
With an open glass facade overlooking the main road, you can count how many cars come and go out of Batroun. You can feel the summer vibes rising... An enclosed terrace, a bar and couple of sofas, the restaurant is cosy and feels like home.
The terrace is filled with a handful of colorful chairs and wooden tables, a wooden bar decorated with paintings and posters, a colorful wall of comments on sticky-notes and a television. Welcome to Tout de Sweet Batroun.
On the menu you can find a selection of creative options:
- 7 waffles
- 8 crepes
- 5 pancakes
- The special corner
- Have you ever imagined enjoying "Halawat el Jeben" with pancakes? Yes, the famous oriental sweet is produced in-house, laid on a thin pancake, topped with Kashta ice cream and enchanted with chocolate. What a combination! Soft pancake, real homemade halawa with no additional sugar, tasty ice cream... and the chocolate makes all the difference. I loved the combination and the flavor it offers.
- Knefeh pancake!!! Indeed, two layers of pancakes create something that looks like a burger stuffed with a home made knefeh and a spread of Nutella. Two fluffy pancakes which don't dominate the dish and are not chewy, a piece of knefeh with a homey feel, a bit of Nutella and toasted sesame to decorate it. It's amazing how a balance of saltiness and sweetness blend together in this unique sandwich. You bite and feel something soft... wait a couple of seconds and start to feel the sugar followed by enjoyable saltiness, and finally the Nutella the kicks in.
- A waffle made out of chocolate batter topped with white chocolate and stuffed with Kinder fingers and scoops of Lebanese ice cream. Beautifully designed and decorated, the waffle is airy and has a light crunch, the add-ons are a bit sweet for my taste but good enough to be enjoyed.
- The shawarma crepe is an interesting innovation: a crepe rolled like a sandwich stuffed with chocolate cake, strawberries, kiwi and topped with two types of chocolate. I liked this one the least. The crepe is chewy and the filling is excessively sweet.
Sweet and innovative with a homey feel, Tour de Sweet is not like the other sweet parlors around town. It's a place where a family prepares food with love. Check them out when passing by Batroun.
