The Caroussel: The Only Michelin Starred Restaurant in Dresden Doesn’t Deserve a Star
Breakfast at Relais & Chateaux, Hotel Bülow Palais in Dresden: Perfection in the Details
In the Baroque quarter of Dresden behind its historic facade - only a short walk from landmarks such as Semperoper, Zwinger and Frauenkirche. Experience a hotel full of congeniality and individuality.
The hotel is a haven for travelers who prefer the bespoke style and the exclusivity of a privately owned and individually managed hotel. It is also the venue for the multi-award winning Caroussel Restaurant managed by Head Chef Benjamin Biedlingmaier, one of the most renowned restaurants in the Free State of Saxony.
I'm in love with the Relais&Chateaux brand, looking for their hotels everywhere I travel, and Dresden was next in the list. After spending a memorable night at the Kempinski, I chose to try the Hotel Bulow Palais, a few minutes from the downtown area.
Arriving at two in the afternoon, I was asked to wait for fifteen minutes in the lobby, enjoy a welcome drink while the room is being prepared. A cozy lobby decorated with colorful sofas and paintings makes you want to stay here for the afternoon. A big heart decorates it and a big red sofa. Down the hall, the bar, the restaurant bistro and a Michelin star restaurant which I’ll be trying tonight.
The luxurious Bülow Palais offers 58 elegant rooms and suites over three floors, featuring exquisite bathrooms, elegant furniture and sumptuous textiles throughout. Luminous, light colors set the tone and are skilfully offset against robust hues of distinctive natural wood. Every last detail was specially selected or custom made for the hotel.
I’m staying in the junior suite: the 45 m² spacious junior suite is lovingly decorated in warm colors and features a double bed, comfortable sofa, and large desk. High dormer windows offer a romantic view of the surroundings.
The Bülow Palais is the only hotel in Dresden with a Michelin Star Restaurant. It counts to the top culinary addresses in Saxony. The Gourmet Restaurant ‘Caroussel’ is considered THE culinary address in Dresden and has enjoyed top ranking amongst the country’s finest restaurants for many years.
Back to the room: I loved the room. A spacious room with a vast bathroom and separate toilet. It’s luxurious and upscale, created to relax. I enjoyed working on the couch, looking outside the window and taking a shower under strong water pressure. The beds in another hand are probably the worst ever: so fluffy, and so small, they are your backache guarantee.
Calm, serenity, luxury, style... away from chaotic holiday hotels.
Waking up on a beautiful Wednesday morning, I ran to breakfast served at the starred restaurant. Enjoying the diffused lights of the winter garden, I experienced a luxurious breakfast that deserves a review of its own.
More details and more attention... Before leaving, we were offered a bottle of water for the road. “How about a bottle of water for your journey”.
One of my favorite hotel discoveries this year, coming back here would be a pleasure in the near future.
