New small-group journey offers a seamless experience from Buenos Aires to the Antarctic Peninsula, led by expert guides
Adventure travel company Gondwana Ecotours has announced the launch of its newest small-group expedition, Antarctica: Penguins & Polar Frontiers—a thoughtfully designed journey that reimagines travel to the Seventh Continent by combining cultural immersion in Argentina with expertly guided Antarctic exploration.
The experience begins in Buenos Aires, where travelers are introduced to the vibrant culture of Argentina before continuing south to Ushuaia, the world’s southernmost city. From there, guests embark on a seamless transition into the remote wilderness of Antarctica, supported throughout the journey by Gondwana’s leadership team.
“We saw a gap in how most people experience the Antarctic,” said Jared Sternberg, founder of Gondwana Ecotours. “Many trips begin and end at the gangplank of a ship, leaving travelers to navigate South America independently. We wanted to create a fully integrated experience, where guests are supported from arrival to departure.”
The expedition is led by Sternberg alongside co-owner Eric Segalstad and Dani Catania, Gondwana’s Head of Guides and Operations. An Argentine native based in Ushuaia, Catania brings over a decade of Antarctic guiding experience, offering travelers rare insight into both the cultural and natural landscapes of the region.
“Having Dani on the team is a game changer,” said Segalstad. “His deep understanding of the region—both its wildlife and its cultural identity—creates a more meaningful, connected journey for our guests.”
After crossing the Drake Passage, the expedition focuses on immersive exploration of the Antarctic Peninsula. Guests travel by Zodiac through ice-filled waters to encounter Gentoo, Chinstrap, and Adélie penguins, visit historic research stations, and spot wildlife including humpback whales, minke whales, and leopard seals.
In a notable departure from industry norms, Gondwana includes guided sea kayaking as part of the base package, allowing travelers to experience Antarctica’s pristine environment without additional fees.
“We believe travel to a place this remote should be free from logistical stress and hidden costs,” Sternberg added. “From internal flights and transfers to gratuities and activities, everything is included—so guests can focus entirely on the experience.”
Starting at $19,695, the expedition offers a carefully paced itinerary designed to provide both depth and context. By framing the Antarctic journey within Argentina’s cultural landscape, Gondwana Ecotours delivers an experience that connects travelers not only to the destination, but also to the broader story of the region.
