I thought I knew what true Italian gelato is... I thought traveling to Milano and having gelato there was the real deal... I thought even though trying every and all kinds of ice cream none could shine out... and then I discovered Pitango. Pitango is surely the best ice cream you can try in Washington and certainly on my personal list of the world's best.
This is simply gelato after all, but not like just any gelato. It's light and smooth, airy and fresh, creamy without being heavy, icy without disintegrating... it's loaded with flavor and enjoyable to the very last mouthful. Pitango is addictive.
Hazelnut, vanilla chocolate chip, pistachio, halawa and pistachio, chocolate with chocolate chips, chocolate hazelnut, cinnamon, matcha green tea, vanilla, cardamom, cafe espresso, cream, mango, lemon, pomegranate, chocolate noir, raspberry, rhubarb, tangerine and local strawberries.
Exceptionally mouth watering and close to orgasmic! The ice cream they sell here is outstanding! Choose two flavors and have them in a cone or cup. Generously filled, the ice cream cone is very instagramable.
So I ordered the dark chocolate with chocolate chip in one cone and pomegranate and tangerine in another. It was like the world stopped moving! The chocolate is really too good to be described in words. The tangerine and pomegranate are so light, fresh, close to a sorbet without being icy. The ice creams melt easily - proving they are not adulterated by preservatives and emulsifiers.
They were too good to be true... so I went back in for another round. How could I leave without trying the halawa and pistachio, the cardamom and the cinnamon! OMG: mind-blowing ice cream! So rich and intense in flavor, the halawa is so pure, the cardamom is outstanding and the cinnamon is magical.
After eating four cones, yes four cones, I can assure you that this ice cream place is one of the world's best. Bravo from the bottom of my heart!
