This place is so vibrant that you won’t feel like leaving! Hundreds of customers coming in every hour chitchatting loudly, music playing in the background, fresh air circulating, ventilators, a display fridge of beautiful cakes and half a dozen waiters roaming around to satisfy everyone. It’s the breakfast place to visit when in Amsterdam, this restaurant is all over the place highly rated on all platforms.
Eggs any style and the favorite like eggs and pancakes, eggs with potato hash, eggs with portobello to name a few. They are known for the thick pancakes, the bowls and also have sandwiches and alcoholic drinks.
For your info: you cannot order everything at once. Start with the eggs then add other items when you are done.
The place looks fresh. A long wall of bricks painted in white. Yellow painted air conditioning ducts, blue sofas, and wooden chairs.
- Portobello on Rewena Toast: citrus marinated portobello mushrooms on house-made Rewena bread toast with cashew cream. Pickled zucchini ribbons, edamame, truffle oil and pine nuts. Because it’s a vegan plate, an egg can be added.
- Eggs Royale: smoked salmon on a hot buttered toast with two poached organic free range eggs all topped with hollandaise sauce.
- Chia pudding served in a jar with fruits and crunchy meringues.
- American style pancake stack; blueberry pancakes topped with fresh cut banana, blueberries, and organic Canadian maple syrup.
Excellent service and perfect attention, looking into the details of things. The manager approached my table only to inquire about the garlic allergy.
Breakfast started with coffee, and I believe this is why the place has a 4,6/5 on google and not a 5! Coffee is bad; too bitter, too strong and too acidic. And service is extremely slow!
I loved the portobello mushroom on toast, a light sweetness, cashew cream, refreshing zucchini and an egg on top. Unfortunately, the poached egg is overcooked, but I loved the mix of ingredients which is innovative and rich. The eggs royale have a balanced hollandaise; good quality smoked salmon, a poached egg that’s a bit overcooked and a thick toasted bread. I loved its taste. Is it good? Yes! Is it exceptional for me to wait another 45 minutes next time? No!
The pancakes on another hand are stickier than they should. Five of them, one on top of the other, too hot to be enjoyed and sticking like uncooked pancakes. Maple, bananas and blueberries are good. Not a big fan of chia puddings and I believe this one needs some sweetness, honey on top to balance its acidity. Served in a jar with fruits and crunchy meringues on top, this mix is healthy and colorful.
I was probably coming with very high expectations this is why I left unimpressed. I’ve had better breakfasts on my tours around the world.
