From Annaya to Harissa: A Day with Abou Shady

A Simple Day in Lebanon: Mar Charbel, Harissa, Ice Cream & Good Times

What happens when you decide to forget the schedule, stop running from one place to another, and simply enjoy a day in Lebanon?

In this episode, I hand over the journey to Abou Chadi and let him take me wherever the road leads. We start, of course, with food — a warm Lebanese kaakeh with Akkawi cheese — before heading out for a relaxed day together.

Our journey takes us to Mar Charbel, a visit filled with spirituality, silence and reflection, especially for everyone around the world who loves Saint Charbel but cannot be in Lebanon to visit him in person.

Then comes the lighter side of the day: ice cream! We taste and compare soft serve, frozen yogurt and real traditional Lebanese bouza, searching for that unmistakable texture, stretch and flavor of the authentic Lebanese version.

From there, we continue toward Harissa, overlooking Jounieh and the Mediterranean, enjoying one of those views that immediately reminds you why Lebanon is so special.

There was no complicated plan for this episode. Just two friends, a car, lots of jokes, kaakeh, Lebanese ice cream, beautiful views and two of Lebanon’s most meaningful destinations.

Sometimes the best mechwar is the simplest one.

Mar Charbel. Harissa. Jounieh. Lebanese kaakeh. Akkawi cheese. Traditional bouza. Friendship, faith, laughter — and Lebanon.
