A Normal Day, Dar Al Wasl’s much-loved neighbourhood bistro known for its playful, inventive yet grounded approach to everyday eating, is rolling out its most exciting collaboration to date: The Crown, a limited-edition plate created with culinary storyteller and Instagram maverick Hani AlMaki—better known as @BedouinFoodie—who boasts an audience of over 34,000 loyal foodie followers.
Launching Friday 12th December, the special serve is born from curiosity and a desire to take something familiar and turn it into the unforgettable. Inspired by the classic Steak Frites and Steak au Poivre, The Crown embodies a filet mignon (or tenderloin) steak as the anchor, a refined cacio e pepe filled Italian ravioli sitting on top, and a portion of fries served on the side.
In true A Normal Day’s fashion, The Crown is perfectly balanced and designed to be shared, though we wouldn’t judge if you kept it all to yourself. With tireless precision and multiple tastings, the magic lies in cutting into the ravioli crown as a stream of sauce spills out theatrically, creating the perfect Instagrammable moment. It’s familiar in flavours, modern in attitude, and garnished with a touch of drama.
The idea began with Hani’s lifelong love for the great French classics, the kind of dishes everyone respects but no longer gets excited about. Rather than reinvent them, he wanted to reawaken them. That spark arrived after seeing a steak topped with a sauce-filled ravioli. It wasn’t the idea itself he wanted to mimic, but the reminder that classics don’t need reinvention; they simply need reinterpretation. That moment planted the seed for what would eventually become the newly-revealed distinctive plate.
Hani took the early concept straight to A Normal Day, where the kitchen brigade became the perfect creative partners. Together, they explored how a plate could be rooted in tradition yet feel thoroughly modern, expressive, and full of personality. A Normal Day’s technically perfect cacio e pepe sauce unlocked the final direction: a rich, elegant filling tucked inside an oversized, delicate ravioli, placed atop the base like a crown. The name revealed itself instantly.
