Lady M New York: An Overrated Pastry Shop!
Non-smokers friendly

After visiting "Lady M" in Seoul, it was time to check the original pastry shop in the United States of America. Lady M New York is where I stopped to discover what the Mille crepe cake really taste like. It was an "Oh my God experience". o

Signature Mille Crepes, checkers, strawberry Mille Feuille, banana Mille Feuille, gateau au marrons and the apple galette.

The place looks dark from the outside. Badly lit, the tiny rectangular shop hosts a display fridge and several round tables.

We ordered the Mille crepe and some other specialities including the signature Mille crepe with light pastry cream, the citron Mille crepe topped with candied lemon zest, the green tea eclair filled with lush green tea custard and I even ordered the Mont Blanc to compare with the one at Angelina.

Tap water is offered for everyone while we waited to be served.

The crepe cakes were a bit too soggy and they felt like they have been done way earlier. They were not fresh enough, the crepe had absorbed the cream creating a moist and gooey mix. Cream Mille crepe was good, lemon was fine but nothing was exceptional, just like the one I had in Seoul.

Small in size, the eclair's envelop was hard and not generously filled with an green tea flavored cream. It tasted ok.  But I had better eclairs.

The Mont Blanc looked like the one at Angelina, a mountain of chestnut cream on top of a bed of fresh cream but no meringues. No crunch, no meringues, an unpleasant lemony acidic after note. Where's the crunch? The texture?

I expected much more from Lady M, the iconic Lady M.

Nothing left me amazed and everything needed improvement. I came here with very high expectations and left deceived and unhappy.
