Celebrating one year this October, Home Sweet Home is your home away from home in the heart of Mar Mikhael. It feels like home from the minute you walk in: “welcome home shouts the manager out loud.” In the heart of Beirut, a new kind of cafe experience awaits. Come for positive vibes, vibrant and colorful decor and homey food. Sit on the little tiny terrace surrounded by the city’s old buildings and feel transported. On a beautiful calm Sunday, I let myself go to the tunes of soothing music, and a light breath of air.
Divided into several corners, Home Sweet Home feels exactly like my living room. Colors, sofas, sexy wallpapers, wooden tables, crystal chandeliers, modern designs, parquet floor, and an open kitchen. It feels good to be here as if you traveled to the old streets of Paris.
Good quality Labneh drizzled with premium olive oil and served with cucumbers, tomatoes, black olives, and mint leaves. Served with a basket of toasted baguettes on the side, dig-in and enjoy the simplest yet tastiest of breakfasts. Grab a piece of bread, dip in the bowl of zaatar and feel Lebanon in every bite.
I feel proud of my country when I eat things like this; I feel proud of the chefs of my beautiful country when I eat innovative things like this which were only found in the big culinary capitals of the world a few years back. Have the millionnaire croissant which will make you feel like a rich guy without a penny in your pocket. Real scrambled eggs prepared to perfection and stuffed in a flaky croissant spread with avocado cream. The marriage of ripe avocados giving a certain acidity, the smoothness of eggs and crunchiness of the croissant combined, is a pure satisfaction to your taste buds.
Eggs with Kawarma, probably the only gourmet eggs plate with fine-dining quality I’ve ever had. Served in a circular shape as master chefs do, the eggs are so moist and the Kawarma so juicy that it makes you want to scream from joy.
Very good job chef, I shout-out loud while eating the avocado toast. Spread on a crunchy pain de Campagne, a cream of avocado comes in to support two eggs, poached to perfection. Bravo guys, this is good! The acai bowl looks good but tastes like strawberries; as is, it’s generous, healthy and enjoyable... comparing it the fresh frozen acai I enjoy in New York, this is not it.
Fine... everything was tasty... but leave everything behind and focus on the pancakes! Pancakes from space have landed on my table, pancakes with caramelized bananas, drizzled with caramel, sprinkled with pomegranate... spongy pancakes, amazing caramel, fresh sweet pomegranate, ripe bananas that melt like butter... OMG! This is so, so, so, good!
We were offered the house specialty, frozen bananas rolled with homemade Halawa and drizzled with honey; An interesting creation.
The bar has been raised higher and higher, Lebanon’s culinary scene is improving, developing flavors and trends usually found in the world’s culinary cities. I felt good this morning; I felt proud, I enjoyed my time and promised to be back. Food was awesome, service professionals and the vibes memorable... it’s home away from home in Beirut.
