Nolita Restaurant: Fiat's Italian Flavors in Paris
I’ve been here in 2013 and still remember it as if it was yesterday! Nolita is the Italian restaurant up on the second floor of the Jeep and Fiat expo. An Italian experience felt from the minute you walk in, having dinner at Nolita is special on many fronts. Different from the street restaurants of Paris, at Nolita you sit on a big table without being pushed by your neighbors. Dimmed lights, a cozy music, I ordered a bottle of wine and waited to be served.
The place is still the same and has survived five years already. Black and white are the colors accompanied by the warm lights of candles and colorful pieces of art. The restaurant is built around a vintage Jeep Willy’s from the late forties.
Fine glassware, candlelight’s, a set of cutlery, a bread plate, a bottle of Italian olive oil and an Alessi salt mill. Let’s have some wine and enjoy dinner.
The experience starts with a mise en bouche. Cannelloni of melon and ricotta with balsamic vinegar and roasted almonds. Gelée wrapped around a cream of ricotta and melon and a light crunch at the end; it's smooth and simple for a fresh start.
Mozzarella pops battered and fried; add balsamic vinegar and enjoy. A great idea of an elevated nibble, the Italian way. A huge plate of mozzarella with peeled cherry tomatoes; add olive oil, a sprinkle of salt and enjoy. The tomatoes are peeled, they melt under your teeth like butter. This plate is served with warm salted Italian bread. As simple as Italian food can be, majestically rich and intensely flavorful; I loved it!
Mozzarella buffalo pizza topped with black truffles and frozen lettuce. It’s so good but without the lettuce! Why the lettuce when you have such a good quality cheese, unique black truffles, and a fine fluffy crust; drizzle some olive oil and enjoy the moment. I even got some cheese from the mozzarella plate and added it on the pizza; it’s waw!
This food is so, so, so... three times and even more good! Extremely salty and I love it, the spaghetti served on a long plate in a special cylindrical way is to die for! I so fell in love! The risotto is even better, spinach and Parmesan risotto to make you want to scream. That’s Italian fine dining prepared in a casual way. The flavors poured inside those plates are breathtaking.
Spaghetti cooked al-denté, decorated with sheets of Parmesan, mixed with cubes of veal and prepared in a creamy cheesy sauce. The risotto is so smooth, cooked al-dente, the rice is firm but not crunchy.
Bravo all the way, bravo for the service, for the mood, for the portion size, for the ambiance and for the taste; I enjoyed my dinner so much that I’ll put this restaurant on my top dining destinations when visiting Paris.
